"Anything is possible with enough of our time and your money"
Bible Covers
If anywhere, I got my start making Bible Covers. MY own personal cover is pretty rough, but as time went by and orders started coming in from members of my church I was able to practice and expand my abilities to a great extent. Every time I am able to inject someones personality into the cover for this wonderful book I grow a little more as an artisan and craftsman. I usually use a good, thick 7 or 8 oz cow hide for my covers. They accept tooling very well and they last forever. My goal is to make things that can last100 years or longer. The finishes on each cover vary based on the changes I make when trying new things, but I am refining my technique with every project. I still have a couple to add and more orders are coming in every day. I will start adding descriptions of the projects and the processes involved in creating them. I believe in sharing what I learn with anyone whois interested in learning. If you have questions please ask. I do not charge for answers and education.

I found this beautiful image by Garry Gay from Santa Rosa California on the internet and loved it. Check out details about this print using the link below.

"Calla Lilly" Bible Cover

I created this bible cover for a very good friend of mine who just happens to love Calla Lillys. Her husband commissioned it for a Christmas present because she wanted her own "Fantasia" Custom Bible Cover. I usually use a pretty overt cross for the front cover, but I decided to get a little more creative and create an abstract cross by tooling three different species of Call Lilly's in an overlapping manner. I used a beautiful Bordeaux color stain for the base color and painted the flowers on the front and back panel. The panels are cutom fit to her favorite bible and cut from a sheet of 7oz veg tanned cowhide and laced together with a sturdy synthetic white lace.

This is the original stained glass panel that inspired the cover. This and other stained glass patterns can be found at the Oaned Expressions Website. Just follow the link.

"Glass Koi" Book Cover
I created this leather book cover by mimicking the stained glass panel as best as I could. For my first time incorporating this many colors into one project, I am very happy with the way it turned out.

Texas A&M "Letterman" Bible Cover
For the most part, most of my projects are commissioned by the person who will ultimately keep it close to them for the rest of their lives. Every once in a while I get a commission from a spouse as a gift to a loved one. This always adds levels of complexityto any project. Firstly, I don't have direct access to the person I am making this for so I have to rely on the spouse for the details. Secondly I cannot let the recipient know, so all of my particular detail inquiries are clandestine in nature. It does not help that both the spouse and the recipient are very good friends of mine. IN the long run, with plenty of encouraging affirmation, we were able to pull off one of the biggest surprises and emotional tearjerkers he has ever experienced. My work here, as they say, is done.

I designed this cover around the customers life. He is a good Christian man, an avid golfer, and a fan of A&M due to the fact that both of his children graduated from there. I created a leather patch from the same 12oz veg tanned hide and dimpled it by hand to look like a golf ball.

I cut these letters out from the same 12oz leather, and because of their size it was very difficult to get some of the minute detail out of suck thick leather. I flirted with the idea of using thinner leather, but it just would not have looked the same. I cut the insets out of the T to show the Bordeaux color of the back panel. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it in my opinion.

made this as a birthday tribute to Buddy Valastro. His work with cake was an inspiration to me on quite a few tooling projects. I don't know if he ever got it, but I still had fun making it.
